Hello, dear readers! We are very happy to be able to finally introduce ourselves to you, our fellow art appreciators. We have never created a blog before, so this is new and exciting territory and a special moment that we want to share with you.
We decided to use this section to tell you more about us, so we are not just internet anons that spill facts, but real people with dreams and ambitions like you. We also wanted to tell you how we came up with this blog and, of course, what sort of content you can expect from it.
Story of Our Lives
Once upon a time, at a university far far away, a student group emerged and the world was never the same. This is the short version. The long version is that we are all humanities students who turned out to have many common interests, and most importantly, a similar, but not too similar, understanding of the world and the arts.
We met four years ago during an introductory class to film studies. We kept running into each other as we had obviously picked the same classes and we soon became close and we started studying together. We are not the same major; in fact, we all come from different fields, albeit all in the school of humanities.
The reason why we were able to meet is due to our university’s approach to studying humanitarian subjects. Our university allows you to pick and choose your subjects, no matter of your major, in the first two years, so you can decide whether you stay the same major or not.
At least that’s the pragmatic reason. The philosophical reason behind it concerns the ability to broaden your knowledge and appreciation of different subjects, which could help you gain a better understanding of your own degree path.
Moreover, after four years, we now understand why many of our lecturers and tutors went on to create hybrid modules and whole programs; the arts do not exist separate from one other, they continuously communicate and enrich each other.
The Blog and Its Contents
As we are nearing our formal graduation, we wanted to make sure that we never forget what brought us together – the unique education program. We also wanted to thank our tutors and lecturers by showing them how much we appreciate what they taught us.
We realised that the best way to do that is by creating a blog where each one of us can contribute a topic and explore it in-depth. We wanted to use the wide umbrella of visual and media arts, so we can include as many fields as possible and to pay homage to our specific university program.
On this blog, you can find all sorts of articles that relate to the visual and media arts. Let’s say we watched a fascinating movie, but we don’t want to recap it or just say it was cool; instead, we want to discuss the unique social and historical context and investigate the characters and what they represent.
We want each one of our articles to be a representation of critical studies and how their application can be fun and comprehensive to people who have never studied a similar thing. We can all appreciate and interpret art; if that weren’t the case, art could not possibly exist.
